On May 15, FAMU will welcome Kim Knowles — filmmaker, curator, theorist, and Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University in Wales. At the university, she founded the Aber Film Lab and the interdisciplinary Centre for Material Thinking, both of which aim to connect theoretical thinking with practice through direct material and experimental experience.
In her lecture focused on experimental film and ecology, Knowles will introduce the audience to contemporary eco-philosophy as a lens through which to explore modes of creation in today’s materialist experimental cinema. Following the lecture, there will be a screening of films curated by Knowles at Ponrepo Cinema.
