From 2019-23, I was a lecturer on the £2.4m ESF Advanced Media Production project, which supported Wales’ creative industries sector by training professionals and graduates to exploit new technologies in media production. The project was shortlisted for the 2021 Times Higher Education Awards 'Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year.

Application of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Mobile and Sensor Technologies for Smart Agriculture, Environmental Monitoring, and Digital Health within a One Health Framework.

 

Proffil

I am a Lecturer of Computer Science at Aberystwyth University, Wales, United Kingdom, where I lead the Aber Agri-Health Data Science Group, conducting interdisciplinary research at the interface of agriculture, ecosystems, animal health, and human well-being. My work harnesses mobile technologies, web development, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and sensor technologies to enhance sustainable agriculture, environmental monitoring, and digital health within a One Health and planetary health framework.

My research focuses on developing intelligent, data-driven systems that bridge environmental and human health. I served as Principal Investigator on the Innovate UK–funded Environmental Monitoring of Welsh Agricultural Catchments (2024–2025), which developed sensor-based frameworks for monitoring nutrient and pollutant runoff across Welsh farming systems. I am Co-Investigator on STREAMS (Space Tech for River Environments and Agricultural Monitoring Sensors, 2025–2027), advancing space and biosensor technologies for water quality monitoring.

As Principal Investigator on DeepDetect (2025, Welsh Government), I lead the development of an AI-powered mobile diagnostic tool for early potato disease detection. I am aslo the Principal Investigator on the KidneyWise project (2025), funded by the Hywel Dda University Health Board, an AI chatbot system providing personalised exercise and psychological support for kidney patients.

Through these initiatives, my work advances Agri-Health Informatics, integrating technology and data to support resilient, sustainable, and health-aligned ecosystems.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) of the United Kingdom.
