Jayne started her career in health care as a healthcare support worker in a rural Powys hospital, where Jayne was offered a secondment and the opportunity to undertake BSc Hons Nursing Practice - adult field with Staffordshire University based at the Shrewsbury campus, becoming a registered adult nurse with the Nursing Midwifery Council in 2004.

Jayne’s first post as a staff nurse was within an intensive care unit during which time Jayne embedded and gained a range of basic and specialised clinical skills, but also took her first steps in teaching and education. Whilst still working in practice, Jayne was part of a team who successfully developed and delivered a recognised training programme for healthcare support workers. Following this first introduction to health education Jayne took up a post as lecturer in nursing at Staffordshire University.

Jayne worked for Staffordshire University for about 17 years as a senior lecturer and course lead prior to taking up the post of lecturer in healthcare education at Aberystwyth University in 2024. During the time at Staffordshire University Jayne’s role included a wide range of various duties and responsibilities which included for example teaching and facilitating learning on a range of both pre and post registration NMC validated nursing and nursing associate programmes, level 4,5 and 6 module leader for cross curriculum topics, course leader for the FdSc Nursing Associate apprenticeship programme, academic assessor and tutor, and involvement in quality processes and curriculum design and development of various nursing programmes.

Jayne continued with her academic studies, firstly gaining Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which enabled Jayne to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a nurse teacher.  Jayne went on to study and successfully completed MSc Higher and Professional Education and registration with the Higher Education Academy as a senior fellow.
