Diddordebau ymchwil

Sagar is a transdisciplinary researcher interested in how people make sense of themselves and the wider cultural and material contexts that support these understandings. His research field operates within the contemporary drinking landscape of Mumbai, India. Contextualised in this rapidly urbanising space, his work takes a feminist ethnographic lens to understand young women's narratives and voices. As such, his work makes an empirical and conceptual case for explaining the wider spread of post-feminism through the neoliberal influences of globalisation in India.

Proffil

Sagar is a third year PhD researcher in Critical Psychology. His thesis explores young urban Indians sense making of their participation in the ‘culture of intoxication’, a globalised drinking culture characterised by economic deregulation policies and subsequent spread of transnational alcohol companies. His current project looks at ‘pedagogies of drinking’ – and how technologies mediate young people’s learning how to drink. His work crosses several disciplinary boundaries, drawing on sociology, anthropology, human geography, marketing studies and, media and cultural studies; and uses qualitative methods that include ethnography and Foucauldian discourse analysis. As such, his work takes a transdisciplinary approach to answer questions of how young people make sense of themselves, and how this sense making is mediated by technology and supported by wider discourses associated with neoliberalism and postfeminism.

Sagar is a part of the Critical Research in Social Psychology at Aberyswyth University (CRISPA) and a member of the teaching team for a 3rd year module titled ‘21st Century Self’ - critical and constructionist approaches to contemporary personhood.
