Disgrifiad

"My work focuses on the ion composition of the radiation belts during periods of enhanced geomagnetic activity known as storms. Certain events such as substorms and sawtooths (isolated and periodic injections of particles into the inner magnetosphere) and dropouts (fluctuations of the lobe boundary) are much more common during geomagnetic storms and the ion composition before, during and after them can help us better understand the dynamics within our magnetosphere.
My initial work utilised data from the CRRES mission, using statistical analysis on sets of multiple events to try and identify common responses. I am now working with the Van Allen Probes mission, which is currently on-going having launched in August 2012. I am starting with a case study of a dropout seen on November 14th 2012 and will be performing similar statistical analyses as with CRRES once sufficient data becomes available."
