title = "A UWB based improved imaging of breast tumors",
abstract = "Breast cancer affects many women and early detection aids in fast and effective treatment. Mammography, which is currently the most popular method of breast screening, has some limitations, and microwave imaging offers an attractive alternative. A new modified cross-correlated backprojection imaging techniques for breast tumor detection using ultrawideband system is presented in this paper. Linear array of antenna and a proposed modified backprojection algorithm are used to form a spatial image of reflectivity, and to identify the presence and location of malignant lesions from their scattering signatures. The method is demonstrated by successful detection of a tumor in a two-dimensional breast model, modeled using FDTD simulation. Signal processing methods developed to mitigate the dominant reflection from the skin are described, and the effectiveness of these is demonstrated. Images of breast models are reconstructed with the antenna array and the proposed imaging algorithm.",
