In this chapter, Mary Jacob asks “How do we create a coherent model of active learning for use in both online and face-to-face teaching?" Mary has synthesised four frameworks to try and answer this: the online engagement framework, Bloom’s taxonomy, ICAP model for active learning and ABC learning design. She discusses how these four models can be mapped against each other to create a coherent, evidence-based approach built around designing Active Cognitive Tasks (ACTs) as a key element of active learning.
