The main distinguishing feature of problems for piecewise homogeneous materials as compared with homogeneous materials is the internal contact surface whose position is unknown in advance (for steady processes) and where additional conditions should be assumed to formulate a correct boundary value problem. As a result of such a structure of workpiece, many theoretical methods developed for homogeneous materials are not applicable and new parameters are of importance in experimental studies. The present paper proposes a theoretical approach for analysis of bi-material extrusion based on a solution for flow through an infinite channel. The approach also requires some experimental data. Numerical simulation has been performed for a composition of practical interest and its results have been compared with experiment. The approach is also applicable for other processes such as extrusion (drawing) multi-layer strips and multi-layer tubes.
