Chartist journalism and print culture in Britain 1830-1855

An original study of the role of the Chartist press in the campaign for democracy in Victorian Britain and overseas. Covering the period form 1838 to the late 1850s, it considers the press in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Australia. Most of the contributors are well-known specialists in the history of Chartism, writing from both innovative and revisionist perspectives. The editors provide a comprehensive introduction, setting each contribution in context and discussing how these essays expand our knowledge of Chartism.
