The second issue of Studies in Russian & Soviet Cinema for 2024 consists of a cluster of articles guest-edited by Edward Tyerman. The texts – by Caroline Damiens, Edward Tyerman, Filip Sestan and Stefan Lacny – address the cinematic role of border zones, or the Soviet periphery, in four geographical directions, from North to East, South and finally West, at different moments in Soviet history. Tyerman’s introduction to the cluster explains the approaches, and Emma Widdis contextualises the contributions in her afterword. The issue also contains a selection of four book reviews, presented by the journal’s book review editor, Raymond DeLuca.
