Crynodeb

Following a prolonged precipitation event in Leicestershire, U.K. aliquots of 50mL of simulated acid rain of pH 3,4,5 and 5.5 were applied, with a nebuliser, to the bark of ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior) carrying approximately 50% cover of the crustose lichen Candelariella vitellina; separate vertical transects were used for each pH application and for each exposure length. Clearly defined mobilisation of elements, from the lichen thalli by acid rain, is reported.
