Crynodeb

An exhibition of the work of German photographer Erich Retzlaff (1899-1993) whose beautifully crafted and historically significant photographs are also ideological documents. This exhibition showcases for the first time thirty vintage Retzlaff prints acquired by the author for the School of Art collection (with match funding from the V&A and ArtFund). It also includes 13 vintage prints on loan from the Münchner Stadtmuseum and 30 prints recently donated to the SoA after the author’s correspondences with Retzlaff’s daughter Bettina Retzlaff-Cumming. The exhibition included photography seen for the first time since the 1930s. The second venue was the German Historical Institute, London 22nd January - 21st March 2014.
