Originating in the earliest stages of contemporary digitality, the Stargate franchise has, from the beginning, offered viewers a commentary on and a means of understanding the breakneck infiltration of the physical by the digital. This article examines the franchise, in particular Stargate SG-1, as a contemporaneous account of how digitality transformed western society in the 1990s and early 2000s. Stargate is reframed as an account of our highly globalised Digital Age, science fiction which predicted and engaged with technological change and economic unease, and which suggested the manner by which these upheavals would be received and processed by society.
