Crynodeb

This paper discusses the potential of using vision systems to monitor and control arable farming operations. Several examples, predominately concerned with the detection of weeds in crops, that have been or are being developed are discussed. These examples are used to illustrate the type of areas in which vision systems could be applied. Particular emphasis is given to the benefits of vision systems and the difficulties associated with reproducing even a small proportion of the visual and interpretive skills of a human. The future prospects of vision systems in the agricultural industry are discussed.
