Crynodeb
An introductory essay exploring the several contexts for the production of a libretto written by Forrest Reid (1875-1947) for an opera based on the text of 'The Song of Solomon'. Reid's libretto (later revised as a play) has never been published and was not performed when written in 1912. Cruise's Introduction sees the libretto in relation to both the Irish and Ulster 'Renaissances', the publication 'Uladh', and developments in wider British and European art and culture.
