Modern applications of Internet of Things (IoT) demand efficient routing protocols to exchange the huge amount of information among deployed nodes and control stations. Existing routing protocols have achieved some reliability and energy-efficiency but more improvements are needed to develop industrial level solutions. In this paper we propose Multihope Heterogeneity-aware Energy Efficient Routing Protocol (MHERP) which deals with two level heterogeneous cluster formation for Internet of Things (IoT). MHERP adopts cluster formation based on location and indexing of residual energy resources of network nodes. Furthermore, we extend MHERP to Multi-level MMHERP to accommodate advancement of three level network heterogeneity. Our Proposed routing protocols outperform the existing state of the art protocols.
