This review follows the terminology of Minchin (1997) for determinate and lupinoid nodules and that of Vasse et al.(1990) and indeterminate nodules. Thus in 'typical' determinate nodules such as those of the soybean, as well as in indeterminate lupinoid nodules, a central zone of bacteroid-containing 'infected cells', which may be interspersed with smaller, uninfected 'interstitial' cells, is surrounded by a multi-layered cortex...
