Description
'Add-ons' are optional treatments, technologies or procedures offered alongside IVF – often at considerable expense to patients – which may not be supported by reliable evidence.
In recent months, the UK's fertility regulator – the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) – has overhauled its ratings system for add-ons. The regulator now places add-ons in one of five categories depending on the quality of evidence, the impact on treatment outcome, and concerns about safety.
This event – produced by PET and supported by the British Fertility Society – will see a range of experts (detailed below), including a member of the HFEA who has overseen the recent overhaul of add-ons ratings, discuss the rationale for the new system and consider the regulator's role.
