Practice as research in the Welsh upland farming context.

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

This was a fifteen minute presentation on a panel with the title 'Together for this place - local visions for the uplands'. The presentation explored upland farming from an ethnographic perspective. It's main argument was that farming knowledge and practice is farm-specific and often such knowledge is historically and socially embedded within the lives of the farming families. The paper asks NGO's and policy makers to consider the specificity and complexity of farming environments and the people who live and work in such environments and suggests the ways in which they might engage with them from a place of trust, respect and understanding.
