Asa is a Mental Health Field Lecturer on the BSc Nursing Programme at Aberystwyth University. Since becoming a qualified RMN Asa has worked in both inpatient and community settings in both Hywel Dda University Health Board and Cwm Taff University Health Board.
He started his career in Mental Health as an inpatient advocate for a third sector organisation in South Wales before undertaking the BSc Nursing programme at University of South Wales. On completion of this he began working as a Staff Nurse in inpatient rehabilitation services in the Cwm Taff UHB area, working with adult patients from both forensic and acute settings before becoming a Deputy Ward Manager. Following this he was appointed as Clinical Lead for the Community Mental Health Team in North Ceredigion.
Asa has a wide range of experience from his time in practice with a particular focus around Psychosis, Risk management, Trauma Therapy, Psychopharmacology and Compassionate and Humanistic Leadership within Healthcare.
During his time in practice, he has worked with a wide range of professionals and is passionate about improving public and professional awareness of trauma informed interventions and approaches.
As part of the Mental health BSc nursing team, he is involved in the ongoing integration of clinical skills and Mental Health First Aid across both fields at Aberystwyth University to ensure that all registrants are equipped with practical knowledge in the management of Mental Health.
He is bilingual in both Welsh and English and is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and music producer.
