Eurig Salisbury

I'm currently in the process of editing medieval Welsh poetry to saints (c.1400-c.1700) on the AHRC-funded Cult of Saints in Wales project at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, Aberystwyth. A fully bilingual edition of Welsh texts, both verse and prose, associated with the saints will be launched online in 2017.

Before joining the Welsh Department, I was a research fellow at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies and worked on two innovative projects on medieval Welsh poetry. For the Poets of the Nobility Series, I co-edited with Barry J. Lewis the work of Gruffudd Gryg, a contemporary of Dafydd ap Gwilym and one of the most gifted poets of fourteenth-century Wales (Gwaith Gruffudd Gryg, 2011).

On the Guto'r Glyn Project, I was part of a team of researchers working on a new edition of the work of fifteenth-century Wales's greatest poet, Guto'r Glyn (my work on the project benefited to a large extent from a period spent studying the early work of Guto'r Glyn for an MPhil degree at the Welsh Department in 2004-6). A fully bilingual edition of the work of Guto'r Glyn was launched online in 2013.

I enjoy bringing both medieval and modern literature together in innovative and unexpected ways. One recent example is Buarth Beirdd, which I edited in 2014, an introduction to some of the earliest and most important Welsh manuscripts alongside work by contemporary poets produced in response to the manuscripts' extraordinary diverse content.

I hope to develop my interests in both medieval and modern Welsh literature through my work in the department, especially in the fields of cerdd dafod (Welsh prosody), genre and ecocricitism.

I came to Aberystwyth as a student in 2001 and graduated in Welsh and Film and Television Studies in 2004. I remained in the Welsh Department to gain an MPhil degree on the early work of Guto'r Glyn (2006).

In 2006, I won the Chair competition at the National Urdd Eisteddfod in Denbighshire, and was also appointed research fellow at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, Aberystwyth. I spent nine happy years at the Centre and contributed to three innovative projects on medieval Welsh literature (see the section on 'Research'). I'm a published author (Llyfr Glas Eurig, 2008; Sgrwtsh!, 2011).

I was appointed Bardd Plant Cymru (Welsh Children's Laureate) 2011-13, and was the first to hold the post for two years. As well as undertaking a wide variety of different literature-based activities across the country, from school workshops to literature festivals to stomp and slam competitions, I have tutored young writers at the Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre and was one of the Welsh-language judges for Wales Book of the Year 2014.

I'm Welsh-language editor for Poetry Wales magazine. I've worked closely with the [Hay Festival][16], the [British Council][13] and [Wales Arts International][12] on a number of literary projects and have taken part in festivals in India, Bangladesh, Colombia, Kenya and a host of European countries. I was one of the Hay Festival's International Fellows 2012-13. My work has been translated into a number of languages, including Bangla, Malayalam and Italian.

I teach Level I BA modules on Welsh literature from 1900 onwards, as well as Level II Creative Writing modules.

I also teach a number of MA Creative Writing modules.
