Personal profile

Research interests

My current research interests include the teaching of religion and religious identity, Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE), and the implementation of the Curriculum for Wales. I am particularly interested in how policy and curriculum guidance are interpreted and experienced within schools, and how teachers can be supported to approach potentially complex and sensitive areas of learning with confidence.

My wider interests include anti-racist education, equality and diversity, inclusive pedagogy and the experiences of marginalised learners. My professional experience across schools and wider educational settings informs my approach to research, with a particular interest in research that can contribute to meaningful change in educational practice.

Profile

I am a Lecturer in Education at Aberystwyth University with a background in secondary teaching, pastoral leadership, curriculum design and teacher education. Before joining the University I was a secondary school teacher, Humanities Area of Learning and Experience Leader and a Head of Year. I gained valuable experience in education, developing the new curriculum, pastoral care and school leadership. I enjoy being able to bring my practical experiences in to my Higher Education teaching.

I am passionate about Education in Wales and the inclusion of all learners in their learning environments. I have a strong interest in issues relating to representation of religious identity, LGBT+ inclusion and generally how schools can support learners to understand and express their individual identities. As a fluent Welsh speaker I am also passionate about Welsh medium and bilingual education.

Teaching

I currently teach Safeguarding and Proffesional Practice to Year 2 Students of BA Education.
