Project title: Chemophytostabilization of contaminated mine soil using perennial energy crops and beneficial bacteria.
A practical study aiming to restore soil health in highly contaminated metal mine sites, chemically stabilising heavy metals in the soil to prevent them entering soil water; hence reducing metal leaching and bioavailability. To do this, the project aims to produce a cropping plan for biomass with microbe inoculation there to reduce the need for soil ammendments and fertiliser imputs.
Supervisors: Dr Elaine Jensen and Dr Kerrie Farrar
This is a Welsh government and EU funded project by the KESS II programme, with Natural Resources Wales as the company partner.
