Personal profile

Profile

I joined DGES in September 2002 as a lecturer in Physical Geography and Environmental Science. I was appointed Senior Lecturer in October 2008, Senior Lecturer in 2014 and Professor in 2021. I was appointed as Head of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences in 2019. I am also a member of Aberystwyth University Council (2024-2028) as an academic staff representative of Senate.

My research focuses on reconstructing climatic and environmental change using evidence from lake sediments. I am particularly interested in the interactions between people, climate and environment over a range of timescales. My research is interdisciplinary and I have worked on collaborative, international projects in Mexico, Ethiopia, South America and the sub-Antarctic region. Closer to home, I also work on sedimentary and historical records of climatic variability and extreme weather, climate change and coastal communities in Wales, the UK and Ireland. I teach across a number of modules on topics related to climatic and environmental change.
