Personal profile

Profile

I am a biochemist by training, with a BSc in Biochemistry & Botany and a MSc in Biochemistry. I went on to do a PhD in Biotechnology, on an applied science project to valorise green seaweed biomass. I joined IBERS, Aberystwyth University as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow in Sep 2021 to work on valorising biomass from nuisance algal blooms/green tides. I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at IBERS on a project involving the development of sustainable alternative proteins from novel feedstocks. The core theme of my research is to address environmental and food security issues using non-traditional feedstock such as seaweed and grasses that are abundant but underutilised across Wales.
I have secured £300,000+ in research funding in the last few years through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, EMBO Scientific Exchange Grant & Joy Welch Research Fund to name a few.
