Abstract

In mammography, the reliable estimation of the volume of glandular tissue can lead to improvements in mean glandular dose calculations and mammographic risk assessment. Using the hint model, this paper presents a novel approach to the volumetric estimation of glandular tissue. The paper reports investigations into the effects of a range of parameters involved in the model. The results indicate that the robustness for possible clinical use depends on the uncertainty with which the parameters are determined. The paper also discusses the requirements necessary for clinical applications.
