Abstract

Shield’s solution for flow of rigid/perfectly plastic material through an infinite conical channel is generalized for a piecewise homogeneous material. It is assumed that each material obeys Tresca’s yield criterion. The influence of process parameters on the position of the bi-material interface is illustrated. In addition, comparison with the solution based Mises’ yield criterion demonstrates an effect of yield condition on this parameter. The solution is used as an approximation to an extrusion/drawing process.
