Abstract

BIO-SOS (Biodiversity Multi-SOurce Monitoring System: From Space To Species) is a response to the Call for proposals FP7-SPACE-2010-1, addressing topic SPACE.2010.1.1-04 "Stimulating the development of GMES services in specific areas" with application to (B) BIODIVERSITY [1]. The main objective of the project is the development of an operational ecological modelling system suitable for effective and timely multi-annual monitoring of NATURA 2000 sites and their surrounding areas particularly exposed to different and combined type of pressures. Within BIO-SOS, the capability of TanDEM-X CoSSC data for DEM generation is investigated. This analysis is motivated by the fact that the single pass acquisition allows to keep high interferometric coherence, also over vegetated areas. The objectives are twofold: evaluation of capacity of TanDEM-X to measure vegetation height and the evaluation of the interferometric phase and coherence for supporting land cover classification procedures. © 2014 VDE VERLAG GMBH
