Abstract
This case study investigated the feasibility of operating the Portable Common Tools Environment across a wide-area network, as part of the Arise project. Simple benchmarks and experiments with a configuration-management application indicate that wide-area PCTE is feasible, provided there is a suitable data-distribution strategy.
