Abstract
A much neglected figure, this is a first attempt to analyse the poetic contribution of one of the USA's major poetic figures in the twentieth century, covering all three areas of his work. It places him in his American and world context, assessing the significance of his poetic influence on a range of movements and groups, as well as considering the impact of his own poetic oeuvre.
