Cofio'r Tywydd yng Nghymru: casgliad Thomas Evans, Hendreforfudd o englynion meteorolegol

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This 11,400 word article uses new archival research and textual scholarship to bring foreground the previously neglected meteorological interest of a relatively well-researched literary figure, the humanist Thomas Evans. His work is contextualised in Classical Meteorology, Early Modern attitudes to extreme weather events, and the traditional function of the bard/poet as the nation's remembrancer. The phenomena that he records are corroborated by other Welsh-language literary texts retrieved through original archival research and the article concludes with my edition of 29 meteorological stanzas ('englynion') by Thomas Evans and his contemporaries from NLW MS 253A. The research was undertaken as part of an interdisciplinary research network on Welsh historical climatology that includes staff at IGES, PAU. Llen Cymru is a prestigious journal in Welsh Literary Studies.
