note = "(devised) International collaborative performance event with Quarantine: Theatre research company. Coming and Going was commissioned by Liverpool Culture Company Ltd and part funded through the Cities on the Edge initiative as part of the 2008 European Capital of Culture programme. Coming and Going was a two week programme of events which took place in Liverpool in November 2008. Investigating migration and cultural identity, Quarantine brought together artists, experts and 'ordinary' people from five cities on the edge: the port cities of Liverpool, Gdansk, Istanbul, Marseille and Naples, to develop a series of residencies and live events. The project looked at how the cultural cargo that people bring with them can influence the identity of the city, and vice-versa how the hybrid character of the city might re-shape someone and affect how they choose to live. Within the context of a meal with 'entertainments' this explored the differing methods through which information, activities, travels and meetings that had happened beyond the event in other cities in the months and years leading to this moment and place might be integrated into a 'present' which would itself be broadcast live back to the cities from which the original material /experiences (events in themselves) were encountered. The table becomes a stage upon which the meetings are mediated through food and framed by personal encounter. The speakers that hang over the tables broadcast conversations from distant parts of the same room and the feed into the broadcast from the room out to the cities from which the original relationships were made. It becomes a web of presence and absence that weaves time present and recent past. The video wall reflects the public occasion but in a domestic context, the key players food and host present in the live event. ; Historical vertical instability dynamics on Welsh rivers ; Conference date: 19-08-2008 Through 22-08-2008",
