Abstract
This article describes the development of experimental work on ionospheric tomography carried out in Europe. It starts with early two‐station observations and discusses the recent complex coordinated campaigns that have involved ionosondes to determine the bottomside profile and incoherent scatter radar to verify the image.©1994 John Wiley & Sons Inc
