Abstract
An examination of the phenomenon of the model village during the long nineteenth century, focusing in particular on Cromford, Creswell, Nenthead, Edensor, Saltaire and Port Sunlight. The narrative explores the cultural conditions which gave rise to the villages and the social and political contexts which informed them.
