Abstract
A near-future science-fiction story following a cybernetic interplanetary fighter pilot dispatched with her drone escorts to enforce a territorial claim in the asteroid belt. The story explores the widening gap between crewed and autonomous aircraft. The drones of the stories – the ‘Centaurs’ – are inspired by contemporary research on ‘human-machine teaming and offers one possible outcome of such a marriage between computational speed and human judgement.
