Abstract
In 1941 a film originally titled "The Slag", beat "Citizen Kane" to win the Oscar for Best Picture. With a coal mine perched on a desert mountain painted black, an Irish director, and the most outrageous collection of accents, a bowlderised script and the wrong colour flowers, the film helped shape Welsh stereotypes for a worldwide audience.
What went missing and why? What might we put back? A.S (Rosa Casado, Ffion Jones, John Rowley, Richard Huw Morgan) undertake a forensic Cultural Translation and Transcreation of that film, stirpped down to the bones and reassembled on the fly for a changed world.
