Abstract

This paper examines the events surrounding, and issues involved in, the Hyder Group’s takeover and break up with particular emphasis on the circumstances of the Welsh Water utility division. Following a brief account of Hyder’s relatively short lived, and problematic, multi-utility experience the paper examines the takeover battle which resulted in Hyder’s acquisition by Western Power Distribution Limited and identifies the key regulatory and competition issues which were involved
