Abstract

This paper investigates the trend of scientific disciplines' fusion into nanotechnology, focuses on the discourse development (e.g., nano-scientific output, reference citations). Using a combination of quantitative (bibliometrics) and qualitative (interview data analysis) methods, the paper attempts to establish the pattern of nano-knowledge fusion, identifies the relevant factors and addresses nanotech innovation trajectories. Finally, it suggests nanotech roadmapping approach based on underlying patterns and dynamics of nanotech emergence. We demonstrate a plausible variety of modules or components that provides some strategic goals to manage nanotech innovation challenges. The study is offering useful insights for science and technology policy makers as well as for practitioners in traditional scientific fields.
