Abstract
The EC is now on the cusp of a momentous decision; whether to classify crops bred by modern molecular methods as GMOs or as conventional varieties. Over the last few decades, our ability to sequence crop genomes and to understand the function of individual genes has driven exciting developments in research and plant breeding. However, to date, there has been no guidance regarding how these new crops would be regulated in the EU.
