Abstract

We propose a novel method for the classification of benign and malignant micro-calcifications using a multi-scale tree-based modelling approach. By taking the connectivity between individual calcifications into account, micro-calcification trees were build at multiple scales along with the extraction of several tree related micro-calcification features. We interlinked the distribution aspect of calcifications with the tree structures at each scale. Classification results show an accuracy of 85% for MIAS and 79% for DDSM, which is in-line with the state-of-the-art methods.
