Abstract
Tool and die designers at German carmaker Audi have created a three dimensional (3D) software-based process. The software enables the tool designers to develop press tools by working with the production technology experts right from the concept phase of chasis development. Audi adopted a sequence planning strategy by determining the sequence of operations and the geometry for the individual stages to ensure part quality and keeping materials cost down. The Icef Surf modeling system is integrated into the process sequence for developing tool and die surfaces directly on the component surface model.
