Abstract

The steel carburizing process over the temperature range of 850-1100°C is studied. The different analytical dependences of the diffusion coefficient of carbon in austenite on C concentration and alloying element (Cr) in steel are analyzed. An influence of the computation method on the value of this coefficient is revealed. It is shown that the alloying elements can play an important role in the process of carbon saturation of steel. The computed concentration curves are compared with the experimental ones, obtained by the method of layer-by-layer analysis of iron saturated specimen.
