Abstract

An examination and exposition of the framework of law applying to those suffering from mental ill-health. At a time when the care of the mentally ill is subject to much public debate, the author attempts to provide a balanced reference work for all those whose task it is to administer the system. The book covers areas such as admission to hospital through the civil and criminal process, mental capacity and the criminal law, and protecting the property and financial affairs of patients. The book should be of interest to lawyers, social workers, court administrators, hospital and nursing home administrators, psychiatrists and all others involved in caring for the mentally ill.
