The Library of John Jones (1650-1727)

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

John Jones, who was Dean of Bangor from 1689, kept a note in a small notebook (now in NLW's Panton Papers) of the books and manuscripts he lent to people in the years ca. 1683-1724. Not a great deal of research has been carried out to date about private libraries in early modern Wales and it is extremely rare to find a loan register for this time period, but the contents of this notebook provide us with a glimpse not only into the Dean's world, but also into the interests and concerns of people within his vocational and social circles.
