Abstract
A chapter on the road movie in Russian cinema, and the destination "nowhere" as a reflection of Russia's sense of lost identity and more generally an absence of meaning and lack of aims. The chapter uses several contemproary films as examples and genre theory to draw a difference between American road movies of the 1950s and its unsuitability for Russian cinema.
