Abstract

This chapter draws on qualitative longitudinal data from the research initiative: Dewis Choice (2015 to 2024). It examines the often-overlooked experiences of older women, aged 60 years and older, who have been subjected to sexual abuse within marriage. Focusing on three case studies, this chapter highlights the interplay of personal, societal, and systemic influences on older women’s help-seeking behaviours. Moreover, the chapter discusses the significant impact of sexual abuse on older women’s health and wellbeing, emphasising the need for tailored support services and interventions. Through a sensitive exploration of older women’s stories, this chapter seeks to amplify the voices of older female survivors, addressing a significant gap in the literature.
