Abstract
This article reflects on the fiftieth anniversary of the journal International Relations in terms of world-system theory of Immanuel Wallerstein. It shows how the magazine and the circumstances of its origin and evolution reflects the structural position of Czechoslovakia / Czech research in international relations at semiperipheral. The concept semiperipheral shows how to place a political community (Czechoslovakia / Czech Republic), in the global world-system and the research community (International Relations) in the global scientific field. Article raises three questions: 1. whether, despite the structural constraints in the Czech environment to produce world-class research; Second if there are any benefits associated with the position on semiperipheral; 3. whether the issues and topics that give the research community Czech prominent role. The article claimed that can produce excellent research, because there are some benefits from semiperiferního position. Czech research community has a vital role to play in how forms of social and political debate within the Czech political community
