Abstract

Made within the context of an ongoing and developing body of research with Quarantine theatre company. Wallflower is a dance marathon, a game that alters according to the players. This work draws upon writings that explore the role of the Wallflower, referencing writings that consider the necessity of this presence in relation to the Argentinian Tango. The scenographic structures employed also reference and question that relational arrangement between dancer and wallflower. The work serves as a form of portraiture of both those dancing, attempting to remember every dance they have ever danced, and those observing. Similarly the scenography is a [re] construction and re- vivifying of previous Quarantine designs. This renewal (acknowledged within the course of the event) brings different understandings of other realities into the room, the objects have their own biographies, in an echo of the attempt to collect and structure the memories of those who have the floor for that one night.
