Abstract

This study investigated the impact of strategic management and information systems on enhancing organisational performance within public non-profit organisations, using the Family Development Foundation in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as a case study. The research explored the perspectives of senior and middle-level managers, as well as employees, regarding their behaviours, practices, thoughts, opinions, and perceived needs concerning strategic management and information systems for improving organisational performance. The study employed an exploratory sequential mixed methods design, specifically utilising the taxonomy theory) development model. Semi-structured interviews with fifteen managers were conducted, and qualitative thematic analysis of interview data informed the development of a structured survey questionnaire. This questionnaire, comprising closed-ended Likert-type items, was administered to 205 employees to quantitatively assess their perceptions, observations, and organisational practices related to strategic management, information systems, and organisational performance. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations) and inferential statistics (Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, r, and multiple regression analysis). Statistical analysis, performed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 25 and Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets, revealed that the organisation extensively practices strategic management and utilizes information systems. Similarly, descriptive results indicated that the organisation achieves high levels of effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, and sustainability. Furthermore, the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient demonstrated a strong positive association between strategic management, information systems, and organisational performance. Multiple regression analysis indicated that strategic management and information systems collectively predict 93.4% of the variability in organisational performance. These findings suggest that strategic management reinforces organisational performance, while information systems enhance both strategic management practices and overall organisational effectiveness. The managerial implications of these findings underscore the importance for organizations to prioritise strategic management practices and enhance their information systems capabilities. Adopting these practices and tools is shown to significantly improve organisational performance.
